Overview

Real people face real fears! Dr. Hicks inspires you to discover that God has designed a way to help you cope with the fears in your life. There are many statements in Scripture that either explicitly or implicitly teach us not to fear. What you may not have discovered is that for every one of those there is a promise from God to help you overcome the fear. With each devotional you will find a “fear not” and a “promise” from Scripture. As you discover and appropriate those promises, your fears should begin to subside. You will

• find yourself identifying with the stories that illustrate Bible truths about fear;

• be encouraged as you discover a blend of the spiritual and the therapeutic in coping with fear; and

• confront your personal fears and discover God’s overcoming promises through each Scripture-rich, life-applied devotional.

Need Motivation in Pursuing Your Goals?

Comments Off on Need Motivation in Pursuing Your Goals? 24 February 2016

Each of us needs to be reminded to set goals, and to stick with them to completion. Goal setters must become goal keepers! Here are some Words to Walk By where your goals are concerned.

  • Keep your goals handy. They are the moorings that will keep your boat from sinking on the seas of life. “Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables” (Hab. 2:2 KJV).
  • Goals are not granted, but achieved through the grub, grime, and grit of hard work! “If you don’t work, you don’t eat” (2 Thess. 3:10 The Message).
  • Goals: Hunger for them and you’ll work toward them. “For his hunger urges him to work” (Prov. 16:26 NET).
  • Your goals should reflect the faith in you! “Better blessings…for those who believe without seeing” (Jn. 20:28–29 The Message).
  • Sharing your goals makes you accountable! “It’s better to have a partner than go it alone” (Eccl. 4:9 The Message).
  •  Seek to satisfy your set goals today! “You’ve got what it takes to finish it up, so go to it” (2 Cor. 8:11 The Message).
  •  Most goals are achieved through partnerships. “It’s better to have a partner than go it alone” (Eccl. 4:9–10 The Message).
  •  Your goal may be fine, but the route needs altering! “Form your purpose by asking for counsel” (Prov. 20:18 The Messsage).

Getting Started

Comments Off on Getting Started 21 February 2016

In this post you will find some Word’s to Walk By. These words are to encourage one to get started, whether it is on a project, a relationship, a career, a new opportunity, an educational pursuit.

  • In a basketball game the team that gets the opening tip has the advantage. In life the person who gets the tip and scores has the advantage. “King Solomon was off to a good start ruling Israel” (1 Kings 4:1 The Message).
  • Know where you are going, who is directing you, and roll up your sleeves and get started! “They rolled up their sleeves, ready for work” (Neh. 2:18 The Message).
  • Today is your day to stop being troubled and start trusting. “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God” (Jn. 14:1 NIV).
  • You will never get started any earlier than today! Will you live today without starting? “On your feet now. Get started” (Deut. 2:24 The Message).
  • Too many people are looking for the starter kit–look for the advanced packet! “…live at your best” (Prov. 8:6 The Message).
  • Talkers don’t win! Doers Do! “…mere talk puts no bread on the table” (Prov. 14:23 The Message).
  • To succeed: get up, get ready, get busy, get blessed! “God said to Joshua, “Get up … “So get started” (Josh. 7:10–13 The Message).
  • Un-started tasks are never finished! (Deut. 2:24 The Message) “On your feet now. Get started.
  • Triumph comes to those who try! “Let’s get started” (Neh. 2:18 The Message).
  • God has called you to an adventure called life–Live it! “God,…got you started in this adventure” (1 Cor. 1:9 The Message).
  • Leader, take the first step, others will follow! “They said, ‘We’re with you. Let’s get started’” (Neh. 2:18 The Message).
  • Say “no” to excuses and “yes” to effort! “Someone not impressed with weak excuses” (Prov. 24:12 The Message).
  • Proceed when possessed with a passion! “‘Let’s get started.’ They rolled up their sleeves, ready” (Neh. 2:18 The Message).
  • Stop grumbling and start going! “I’m going to put a stop to this endless grumbling” (Num. 17:5 The Message).
  • Success at day’s end piggybacks on a good start! “Since you made a good start” (2 Cor. 8:10 NET).
  • A good beginning enables a great outcome! “‘Get started’ They rolled up their sleeves, ready” (Neh. 2:18 The Message).
  • Talk is cheap. Taking to the side of the boat, over, out, and away from the norm is where the power is. “Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus” (Matt. 14:29 NIV).
  • A key to success is being in the right place at the right time! “Take up your positions” (2 Chron. 20:17 NIV). How are you positioned today?

Fresh Starts

Comments Off on Fresh Starts 31 December 2015

Do you ever wish you could make a fresh start? Jan. 1, 2016 is a great time to make it happen. Most of us allow our circumstances to dictate our responses, and we are not living on purpose. We try to make changes by changing things around us. It is easy to blame others for the failures of the past year. But, the greatest changes come from the inside not the outside of us. Only God can change your heart. The reason so many tragic things happen in this age is that God is being left out of many people’s equations. Without a change in your heart there can be no fresh start. God is a God of forgiveness and fresh starts! He said, “For I’m going to do a brand-new thing. See, I have already begun! Don’t you see it?” (Isa. 43:19 LB). Let God effect a fresh start in your life!

“Redeemed”

The painting in my logo is by an artist named Kelly O'Neill.

If you appreciate excellence in art and are captivated by works that grip your emotions and proclaim the remarkable truths of God’s Word, you will want to know more about the very compelling art piece that is part of my ministry logo.

Kelly O’Neill is a remarkable young artist who very masterfully depicts the compassion, grace, and redeeming love of Jesus Christ in her painting, “Redeemed.” No painting has so grabbed my emotions and stirred my gratitude to Christ for His redeeming love as this one. Technically unparalleled, inspired, heart-stirring, and mind captivating are words I used upon seeing it for the first time.

Getting to know Kelly and the background of her wonderful work have served as great motivators as I launch out on a new ministry path in my own life. Kelly is also the developer of my website.

I commend her and her work to you and encourage you to visit her website www.TheArtistOfLife.com
