365 – From Drudgery to Daring

How motivated are you? Are you excited that it is Friday morning and it is time to awake and go to work? What was your level of enthusiasm as you heard the alarm clock sound this morning? Many people live life as if it were a drudgery. It is all they can do to force themselves to go to work. They feel as if they are on a treadmill and they wish they could stop it and get off. What will it take to turn things around and turn your feeling of drudgery into a life of daring adventure? Here are three elements that could make the difference in your life.

Three elements of a daring life:

1. Creativity – Decide to approach your day with newness. Make subtle changes, even in the way you dry your hair, the clothes you wear, the breakfast you eat, the things you listen to on the way to work. Take the next step and decide to get out of the box and do some remarkable things for a change. Remember Simon Peter who stepped out of the boat and his creativity and vision for what could be led him to new victories. The Bible teaches that, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: But he that keepeth the law, happy is he” (Prov. 29:18 KJV). Creative people will see and understand what God is doing and wants to do through their lives. They will be challenged to stretch to the full extent of their capacities, and if necessary, beyond by the step of faith. Creativity leads to dreaming different dreams and believing for new possibilities. Out of God’s vision for your life come dreams and then hopes and then goals and then more doing. This is the way out of boredom and into a daring life full of accomplishment!

2. Risk Taking – Once God has stirred you to be creative you will need to act. No one ever conquered a mountain without taking the first step! You have to be willing to try something that you have never tried before in a way you have never tried it before. You have to love learning new things and trying new things. You have to discover what will and what will not work and do what is successful for you. Nothing you do that is worthwhile is done without the evident risks involved. You can reduce your fear of risks by applying the faith factor. In fact, the Bible is explicit, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him” (Heb. 11:6 NIV). Now, that is a risk you can live with. When God is involved, what you perceive as a risk is diminished. What God plans He prospers. “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future'” (Jere. 29:11 NIV). What is God planning for you that will require you to take the safe risk and accomplish it? Get off of the fence on the side of success today! Live the emboldened life in the power of our living God.

3. Bounce Back – When you are discouraged and feel defeated, bounce back. There are no 100% winners who have never made a mistake, never suffered a loss, never taken a wrong turn. Everyone suffers losses. The question is not have you, but when did you? The thing that really matters is how you respond when you face one of those jolting experiences of life. I like the thought that, “If everything you do works, you are not trying hard enough.” If you are chaffing from a defeat or loss, it is time to get up, dust yourself off, and get back into the game. The most perseverant are the most prosperous in the world. Paul taught his hearers, “And let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t get discouraged and give up” (Gal. 6:9 LB). There is no reason to give up when you know you are in the upward calling of God for your life! Snap out of the spirit of drudgery and into a state of daring response to a powerful call from God to be your best today!
