About Me

Version 2I was born and grew up in central Florida the son, grandson, and brother of Baptist pastors. God called me to faith in Christ at the age of 10, and I experienced growth in that relationship through my secondary school years and into college. I was called to a Christian marriage with my wife Sandy in 1967. God gave us two sons who are blessed with godly families. We are also the proud grandparents of five grandsons.

In 1968, God called me to the Gospel Ministry as a pastor/teacher. He did that through my reading of His Word in the words of Paul who said, And He personally gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, for the training of the saints in the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ… (Eph. 4:11 HCSB). I asked God to confirm His call. He confirmed His call on my life through an amazing answer to a fleece that I laid before Him in prayer. After serving in the US Army for two years in the United States and Germany, I followed God’s leadership to serve as a pastor and continue and complete my formal education. I have pastored churches in Texas and Georgia since that time. I graduated from Columbus College in Columbus, GA in 1977. I graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1978 with a Master of Religious Education Degree, completed the theological core requirements for the Master of Divinity Degree in 1979-80, and graduated with the Doctor of Ministry Degree in 1986.

I have been a successful senior pastor for over four decades. My longest pastorate was one I concluded in October, 2008 where I was the Senior Pastor/Equipper of the Wynnbrook Baptist Church in Columbus, GA for 25 1/4 years. God blessed our ministry with that church to relocate the church 6 years into our work together and to grow from 585 charter members to over 4,000 members in 19 years. I am still involved in the teaching ministry as I have opportunities. I am open to God’s leading in whatever ministry He chooses for me in the future. I founded this teaching ministry on the Internet as an avenue to reach more people for Christ and His kingdom.

At the present time, our family resides in Franklin, TN. We enjoy the Franklin area where we find the people are very friendly and gracious and the living is easy. We like the quaint small inner city feel of Franklin, the traditional celebrations here, and yet having the advantage of the cultural and athletic venues available in the larger inner city of Nashville, only about 20 miles from our home. “Convenient” and “friendly” are the words Sandy and I most often use to describe our new home in Franklin.

Our five grandsons are a great joy to us. They have varied interests and that makes the relationships and the associated activities dynamic and exciting. Our family has always been close, and we are blessed to be near one another geographically.

I enjoy running, golf, writing and speaking. I am now a published author. The book is For Every Fear a Promise. I look forward to the continuation of the ministry through writing, the use of the Internet, the blog, and the development of media presentations of God’s Word to reach more people. See “About My Ministry” to learn more about its concept.

“Redeemed”

The painting in my logo is by an artist named Kelly O'Neill.

If you appreciate excellence in art and are captivated by works that grip your emotions and proclaim the remarkable truths of God’s Word, you will want to know more about the very compelling art piece that is part of my ministry logo.

Kelly O’Neill is a remarkable young artist who very masterfully depicts the compassion, grace, and redeeming love of Jesus Christ in her painting, “Redeemed.” No painting has so grabbed my emotions and stirred my gratitude to Christ for His redeeming love as this one. Technically unparalleled, inspired, heart-stirring, and mind captivating are words I used upon seeing it for the first time.

Getting to know Kelly and the background of her wonderful work have served as great motivators as I launch out on a new ministry path in my own life. Kelly is also the developer of my website.

I commend her and her work to you and encourage you to visit her website www.TheArtistOfLife.com
