358 – The Daring Determine the Day

Comments Off on 358 – The Daring Determine the Day 11 July 2014

Who will determine the day where you live and work? Wherever you are there will be challenges to face. It may be the challenge of meeting and impressing a new client. It may be the challenge of being flexible to fit into a new system. It may be the challenge to close an important deal. It may be the challenge of grabbing the attention of a new audience. It may be the challenge of managing a group of people who are divided and need direction. We all face challenges. Here is something I have learned over several decades of practicing leadership: What we do with the challenge today will determine how we view the outcome tomorrow. There is only one way to face a challenge and that is head on. The way we deal with challenges will determine how we face life and how we live with our circumstances for the rest of our lives. Virgil said, “Fortune sides with him who dares.” If you want to like the outcome of dealing with the challenges you face today, you must be daring! I want to use that word to help us dare to determine the day. It is far better to dare to determine the day than to be observers as others determine it for us.

354 – Principles for Growth

Comments Off on 354 – Principles for Growth 13 June 2014

God does not intend for us to remain unchanged from birth to death. We are in a process of perishing physically, but we are made to grow spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically from birth to maturity. God is watching our level of growth, and He is pleased when we are growing. That is His purpose for each of us. How much have you grown in these areas we have just observed? How are you different today than you were a year ago? Since growth is in God’s plan for you, here are some principles that will assist you on your way!

350 – Improve Your Play Today

Comments Off on 350 – Improve Your Play Today 16 May 2014

Every great athlete has to be committed to improvement. As you make your way toward success in any area of your life your underlying thought must be, “How can I improve?” I love woodworking. In each case when I have done a project I have pursued excellence in what I was doing. It is primarily because I love the finished product. It amazes me how much improved the final project usually is than the originally attempted model. It should be the same in our lives. Tuesday’s product at day’s end should be an improvement over Monday’s. So, how can we continue to improve in our quest to be our best? I didn’t say, “the best,” I said “our best!” Here are three tips for our self-improvement.

343 – Reaching Your P E A K

Comments Off on 343 – Reaching Your P E A K 28 March 2014

How can you reach the peak of your possibilities? Most people have some kind of imagined ceiling that they think represents the peak of their possibilities. When they near that peak, they begin to coast and lose the edge on going after the vision that God gave to them in their younger years. It doesn’t have to be that way! You can choose to continue reaching toward your P E A K. You need to remember, “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible’” (Matt. 19:26 NIV). And, “God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us” (Eph. 3:20 The Message). Don’t stop on the way to the peak of God’s possibilities for you, but continue on toward the peak of God’s possible! God is able, are you willing?

340 – Courtesy: The Forgotten Success Principle

Comments Off on 340 – Courtesy: The Forgotten Success Principle 07 March 2014

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “We must be as courteous to a man as we are to a picture which we are willing to give the advantage of a good light.” I had a beautiful picture that I wanted to frame and hang in a conspicuous place in my office. For it I chose a frame lamp so it would be put in the very best light. I have installed pot lights in rooms to wash the wall and highlight special pictures. There is a spiritual truth hidden in these comments and experiences. It is that we are to look to other’s interests more than our own. If you would be successful, you must learn and apply this principle.

333 – Getting better in the game of life

Comments Off on 333 – Getting better in the game of life 17 January 2014

What are you attempting to do that you would like to be better at? Is there something in your life that needs fixing? Would you like to improve your success rate? For most of us it is a passing thought that, “We would like to get better than we are.” A coach is supposed to have said, “I don’t believe the old statement, ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.’ If that were the case, then Jaguar, Mercedes, and Maserati, would never make a change. I’ve always looked for ways to make things better.” Having read that in reference to football, I want to propose three ways to get better in the game of life. These are worthy of our thoughts!

311 – God’s Game Plan for You

Comments Off on 311 – God’s Game Plan for You 16 August 2013

Football is underway, and we are all interested in game plans. In reference to life, people are always asking me, “How can I know God’s plan for my life?” They are usually referring to something to do with career direction or job choices. I always remind them that God is not going to reveal to them anything to do with secondary things until they recognize and subscribe to His plan for their overall lives. You may wonder what that plan is. I do not blame you. If that is where you are to start, why not get on with it? So, that is exactly what we will do here in these brief thoughts today. For a passage that speaks to this subject we will go to Romans 8. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified” (Rom. 8:28–30 NIV).

309- Looking for Leaders

Comments Off on 309- Looking for Leaders 02 August 2013

The consternation sounded in the responses of people in America to pollsters questions indicates that we are a people longing for leadership. That is true in politics, in homes, in churches, in businesses, in education, in every sphere of society. You can fool some of the people some of the time but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time. The polls prove that Americans are looking for change and that they believe change must come through new leadership!

306 – Living Unshaken in an Unstable World

Comments Off on 306 – Living Unshaken in an Unstable World 11 July 2013

News reports are filled with unsettling information about overwhelming changes that are either being made or attempted through the “fundamental change of America.” It is frightening to hear of the crushing of values and governing ideas that have been around for centuries. It is a challenge to know where we fit into the global concept that seems to have become the order of the day of many political figures. There is financial uncertainty and there are many causes of emotional upheaval in the lives of individuals. The things we thought we could depend upon have proven undependable. The values we once held dear are spurned in leu of ungodly, non-biblical concepts that disallow any standard of living and decency of conduct. How can we continue our lives undisturbed in the midst of the turbulence all around us? How can we succeed in post-modern globally minded America? It is important to stay focused on our God’s instructed plan for life. We must not turn away from who God wants us to be and what God has given us to do! Here are some ideas to help get us through the changing world and shifting winds of uncertainty.

“Redeemed”

The painting in my logo is by an artist named Kelly O'Neill.

If you appreciate excellence in art and are captivated by works that grip your emotions and proclaim the remarkable truths of God’s Word, you will want to know more about the very compelling art piece that is part of my ministry logo.

Kelly O’Neill is a remarkable young artist who very masterfully depicts the compassion, grace, and redeeming love of Jesus Christ in her painting, “Redeemed.” No painting has so grabbed my emotions and stirred my gratitude to Christ for His redeeming love as this one. Technically unparalleled, inspired, heart-stirring, and mind captivating are words I used upon seeing it for the first time.

Getting to know Kelly and the background of her wonderful work have served as great motivators as I launch out on a new ministry path in my own life. Kelly is also the developer of my website.

I commend her and her work to you and encourage you to visit her website www.TheArtistOfLife.com
