If your marriage is in trouble because of hurt feelings how do you react? Some people react by shouting, arguing, blaming. Others react by shutting the partner or significant other out–administering the silent treatment. For sure the joy of the relationship is gone. Such experiences follow insensitivity, while others follow ignorance. You may have offended someone close to you without knowing why or how. What you need to do is clear the slate of the problem. Here are some suggestions that may help you overcome your hurt feelings.

You have probably watched the incredible results of houses being made over for their owners. The Makeover team arrives and friends and neighbors get involved to completely transform the living place for a deserving family. Great results are achieved and people’s lives are blessed. In America we need more than a physical makeover in many homes. It is easier to renovate the physical living place than it is to transform the relationships and the inner make up of a home.

Your job prospects seem to have faded, your marriage could use a boost, a friend has rejected you, a parent isn’t supportive of you, your peers are critical or jealous of you. You need an encourager. For some people everything is really working well for you right now. That positions you to be an encourager. My purpose here is to assist as the Holy Spirit links the two of you together. Maybe you know someone who is going through one of those painful dynamics in life. If that is the case, you have a responsibility toward those who are hurting. 180 – Your Child’s Spiritual Training

Comments Off on 180 – Your Child’s Spiritual Training 29 October 2012

Who is responsible for your child’s spiritual training? We decry the circumstances in our public schools where the Bible is not taught nor read and where prayers cannot be initiated except by a child in quiet reflection. We wonder at what happened to the bold proclamation of Scripture even in some churches these days. In our post-modern world there are more and more people who are more concerned with being politically correct than with being scripturally corresponding. Too many Christians have two sets of standards: one for public show, and a second for private struggle in their homes. So, who is responsible for a child’s spiritual training? Before we attack the government, the courts, the church, or any other institution, we need to review the responsibilities of parents in their own homes.

89 – Spiritual Instruction

Comments Off on 89 – Spiritual Instruction 22 June 2012

We often hear the outcry of a religious group when our rights to express our faith are called into question. We have the God-given right to know faith, to practice faith, and to proclaim our faith without inhibition. There is a right and a wrong way to go about expressing faith. It is not correct to choose a platform where there is contentiousness and to try to force unwilling listeners to give an ear to our beliefs. We would not want the purveyors of falsehoods, cultists, and teachers of non-Christian religious views to try to force us to listen to what we believe to be heresies. The truth is that spiritual instruction is not up to church pastors or religious teachers, nor is it the responsibility of the schools. It is the responsibility of Christian parents. (Deut. 6:4–9 HCSB) “Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is One. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. 7 Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Paul said in (Eph. 6:4 HCSB) Fathers, don’t stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Parents we have a responsibility to do spiritual instruction with our children. Here are some suggestions for how it can be done.

Father’s Day Gifts from a Father

Comments Off on Father’s Day Gifts from a Father 17 June 2011

You will quickly notice that I have called the title of this post “Father’s Day gifts from a father,” not for a father. That is because I want to look for a moment in reverse. Children will give their obligatory Father’s Day gifts. All of the advertising is for children and moms to remember dads on this day. Let’s consider what a dad can give to his children on his special day. There is nothing more powerful than a dad’s example! We want to look at a good biblical example of a godly dad in the Old Testament. His name is Joshua.
